Folding Cat Rig Sailboat - Folds to 4 inches (10cm) Flat! Available
in all lengths

Here's
Technical Sailkit Information
1- 52 sq. ft. Rolly Tasker Sail - Ultimate in sail design
and durability. Holds the wind.
2-Two leeboards (daggerboards). Each one fits on one side
of the hull. They provide incredible stability in a stiff
wind. It's just like having two center boards instead of one.
Almost feels as if you're on a railroad track. Virtually no
side slipping. They rotate up out of the way and can fold
up attached right inside the hull.
3- 12' mast comes apart into two 6 ft. sections for easy
storage (with the boom) in the folded hull.
4- Kick-up Rudder. All the metal that touches the water
is anodized aluminum and stainless steel!
5- With an ultra-wide 5 foot beam, Porta-Bote sailboat is
also a very "forgiving" and "dry" craft.
6- Beginers love it! "Old time sailors enjoy its simplicity!

INITIAL SAILKIT INSTRUCTIONS
FOR GENESIS PORTA-BOTE
TOOLS REQUIRED TO INITIALLY INSTALL
THE SAILKIT TO YOUR PORTA-BOTE
Electric Drill, 1/4" drill bit, 3/16" drill bit, screw driver,
pair pliers, center punch, marking pencil, ruler, razor blade.
HARDWARE SUPPLIED:
Sail, 2 Daggerboards & Hardware, Rudder Assembly and Mount
with Hardware, Nylon Cable Rigging, 3/16" Nylon Rope, Metal Flange
(Mast Step)For Bottom Of Mast Step Hole In Front Seat, Hardware,
2 Turnbuckles, 1 Swivel Block (Pulley).
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS:
1. First, Assemble Your Porta-Bote (refer to the basic
instructions). Completely unpack the sailkit. For this 8' model (only),
you will receive two free extra seat supports and hardware which
can be installed against the transom for more room when sailing.
(NOTE: No dimension is critical in this installation. Just
make sure when installing the Mast, it is "straight up and down".
)
2. INSTALL "Daggerboards":
Install one Daggerboard on each side of boat (See Fig. 1). Use
a pencil to mark a spot about 5" below the top of the upper tube
(gunwale) railing Drill 1/4" holes about 8" to 10" in front of each
oarlock socket (toward front of boat). Cut out a small piece of
the foam so you can insert washer and tighten wingnut. Line up pre-drilled
hole in Daggerboard with hole you just drilled in side of boat hull.
Insert 1/4" (m30) bolt (washer on inside of boat) thru Daggerboard
and hull. Tighten wingnut inside of boat so there is only slight
resistance (see paragraph 16). Note: vertical "bump-out reinforcement"
should face out. (See Fig. 2).
3. Nylon Rope: Cut off two 16" pieces and one 48" piece.
(Flame end of rope to keep it from unraveling.)
4. Two Piece Mast Assembly: The section of the Mast Tube
with the "eye strap" attached is the bottom section of the Mast.
Insert the upper section of the Mast onto this lower section. It
will fit "loosely".
5. "INSTALL Sail On Mast: Open the sail completely. Insert
the top half of Mast thru the long "sleeve" at the front edge of
sail. Then lower Mast. Eye strap on lower section of Mast should
line up with the "cut out area" in sleeve near bottom of sail. (See
Picture).
6. INSTALL Nylon Cable: Attach Snap-Hook at end of Nylon
Cable Rigging to Eye strap located at bottom section of Mast (See
Picture)
7. INSTALL "Mast Step" (NEW MODEL
With Plastic Seats) Place MAST STEP (smaller diameter
end) into hole in front seat. Now insert mast with Sail and Rigging
into exposed larger diameter top part of MAST STEP. Make sure Mast
is "straight up and down" (Ask a person to hold Mast in place).
Mast will fit loosely. First, take one end of Rigging with turnbuckle
attached and place it against inside of side hull behind and parallel
to the rear of front seat. Now stretch the cable as far as it will
go behind the rear of front seat towards rear of boat. Mark the
spot (allow about 1/2" leeway for the turnbuckle to go thru side
of hull). Repeat same procedure for other side. The actual distance
is not critical as long as the rigging can be made "taut".
7a. INSTALL "Mast Step" (OLD MODEL
Wood Seats ONLY) Place round metal MAST STEP plate onto
front seat equidistant from both sides of hull. (See Fig.1). Cut
away foam using the plate as a pattern. Drill 1/4" holes using plate's
holes as a template. Insert three 1/4" x 12 bolts thru bottom of
seat. Tighten wingnuts and washers to bolts under seat. (See Picture)
8. Drill 3/16" hole into each side of hull where you have
marked the spot. Remove nut and washer from each turnbuckle and
insert bolt thru each newly drilled hole. Replace and tighten nut
and washer against outer side of hull. Repeat on other side of hull.
9. Run 48" Nylon Rope through loop of Rigging Cable. Insert
and tie rope thru grommets in front of hull See Fig 4.
10. Put "Gooseneck" at end of "boom" thru the mast. Tie
boom to grommets in sail with two 16" pieces of rope (See Picture).
11. Drill hole for pulley close to the top of Transom (on
either side). Attach a pulley. Tie remaining rope (main sheet) to
eyebolt near rear of boom and run it thru pulley installed on top
side of transom. Dimensions not critical. (See Picture).
12. DRILL TWO 1/4" HOLES: The wood block hinged to the
transom already has two "pilot holes" drilled. Use these holes as
a template. With block firmly against the Membrane and Transom,
drill thru both the Membrane and Transom of the boat.
13. WINGNUT ADJUSTMENT ON RUDDER: The bolt and wingnut
on the rudder should only be tight enough to give a slight resistance
when you try to lift the rudder. This allows the rudder to "kick
up" if you hit a submerged object.)
14. INSTALL RUDDER/TILLER ASSEMBLY: Place "Rudder Mount"
against Wood Block. Line up the two holes and insert long bolts
thru Wood Block, Membrane and Transom. Tighten wingnuts against
Transom on inside of boat.
15.WANT INCREASED PERFORMANCE? Sit on the bottom of the
boat! Use a flotation pillow to rest against the edge of the rear
seat. Speed will increase by 30%.
16. VERY IMPORTANT!!! Tacking
Procedure: The 2 Daggerboards prevent your
boat from "side slipping" and turning. So, about 15 feet (5 meters)
before starting to TACK to the right (starboard) rotate left (port)
daggerboard up out of the water. Before tacking to the left (port)
rotate right (starboard) daggerboard up out of the water. When through
"coming about", rotate daggerboard back in place.
PLEASE NOTE:
If you haven't sailed before, (and don't know what "TACKING" , Side
Slipping or "Coming About" is ???) take lessons at a sailing
school in your area. ENJOY.
